Thai cuisine is essentially the marriage of centuries-old influences from the East and the West harmoniously combined into a single Thai entity. The characteristics of Thai cuisine depend on who cooks it, for whom it is made, for what occasion, and where it is prepared. Dishes can be refined and adapted to suit all palates.

Originally, Thai cuisine reflected the characteristics of a lifestyle close to water. A Thai meal is eaten with a fork and a spoon. Even a simple dish like pork fried rice, or fried duck white rice, are served in such small pieces that a knife is not necessary. The spoon is used to bring food to the mouth.
